Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, beat butter and cream cheese until creamy. Add egg and vanilla extract. Mix in the cake mix just until combined. If possible, chill the dough for 15-20 minutes to make it easier to handle as it will be sticky.

Using a medium cookie scoop or spoon, portion the dough. Place powdered sugar in a shallow bowl. Roll dough into 2.5 cm (1-inch) balls and coat thoroughly in powdered sugar. Arrange on prepared baking sheet.

Bake for 10 minutes, or until cookies are set but not browned.

Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Dust with additional powdered sugar if desired.
