Set a large skillet (cast iron recommended) over medium heat. Add the sausage and break it into smaller pieces while stirring with a wooden spatula. Cook until brown and fully done, about 8 to 10 minutes.

Add butter to the skillet and stir until completely melted.

Sprinkle flour, granulated garlic, and black pepper over the sausage. Stir until well coated and all grease is absorbed. Continue stirring and cook the flour mixture for about 2 minutes.

While stirring constantly, slowly pour in 3 cups of milk. Continue to stir and simmer until gravy thickens, about 3 to 5 minutes. Add salt if needed. If gravy becomes too thick, incorporate the remaining 1/2 cup of milk.

Serve hot gravy over freshly baked biscuits.
